Elevate Pan London Management Development Programme for Women

‘Elevate’, a new Management and Leadership programme for women, delivered by YFA in partnership with six other organisations, is now underway. The programme aims to support women in leadership and management roles through training and/or coaching, with the added bonus of gaining a recognised qualification.

Demand for this programme has exceeded expectations and has received excellent participant feedback. A second programme to be delivered by YFA has been added and will start in September 2005 - further programmes are planned for January 2006.

Key Worker Training for Lewisham Youth Service

Lewisham Youth Service recently commissioned YFA to design a tailor-made learning and development programme to introduce Youth Workers to the role of 'key worker'. The programme explored the key issues, skills and processes involved in key work with young people and was delivered by Lesley Derry, YFA's specialist youth work consultant, who has over 20 years experience as a youth worker and manager in local authority-run and voluntary youth services.

18 part-time youth workers signed up for the 5-session programme which covered one-to one support, coaching and mentoring, practicing safely and working with other agencies. Feedback indicates that participants found the programme content to be useful and relevant to their workload - and also an enjoyable experience. To build upon this success a second programme is being planned for early next year.

Lambeth, Southwark & Lewisham Sickle Cell Community Forum

Forum LogoA new forum has been created for those living with Sickle Cell in Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham. The Sickle Cell Community Forum is a space for service users, their carers, and local voluntary and community sector organisations who work with people living with Sickle Cell. The Forum will work in partnership with the local PCT and other key stakeholders to improve the quality of services available in the three boroughs.

YFA has been involved in the development of the forum, providing capacity building support. This follows on from our earlier research into carers and service users’ views of health and social care provided by Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham Primary Care Trusts.

Forum members attend bimonthly meetings and may be entitled to receive expenses for transport and childcare. In addition, representatives of voluntary and community organisations can also receive training and consultancy sessions from YFA, as well as financial grants from Lambeth PCT to support and better enable their participation in this partnership work.
